New King Exhibition at the Center
Now is the time: Remembering the legacy of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom Presented to mark the 60th anniversary of the march, it takes you back to August 28, 1963, when 250,000 Americans from all backgrounds and all parts of the country gathered on the National Mall to demand civil and economic rights. As a result, the march would come to “transform the national landscape” and provide Americans with a new concept of the American Dream, which Dr. King’s Elevation, Distinguished and Reformed words defined: “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise and live the true meaning of its religion: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.
The exhibition will be on view from January 13 to June 2023 in The Center’s Voices to the Voiceless Gallery.
Each weekend during Black History Month, the center is hosting activities in our building for the whole family, including children’s story time, center-wide scavenger hunts, and giveaways.
High Museum of Art: Stephen Burks: Shelter in place
Stephen Burks: Shelter in Place explores ideas about domesticity—that is, asking how we can design our interiors to enable joyful living while empowering creativity.
As an African American designer, Burks has forged a unique path by embracing the challenge of advocating for hand production as a strategy for innovation within industrial production.
Atlanta History Center:
The Atlanta Historical Society was founded in 1926 to preserve and study Atlanta history. In 1990, after decades of collecting, researching and publishing information about Atlanta and the surrounding area, the organization became official. Atlanta History Center.
Beginning as a small, archives-focused historical society, the 33-acre curated Goizueta Gardens grew over the decades to encompass four historic homes, diverse programming, and a range of signature and temporary exhibits housed at the Atlanta History Museum.
Earth Science Museum:
the earth Located in Cartersville, GA is a world-class 120,000 square foot museum. The museum exhibits an open mind and ignites a passion for science. Telus includes four main galleries: The Weinman Mineral Gallery, The Fossil Gallery, Science in Motion and The Collins Family My Big Backyard. A 120-seat digital planetarium and an observatory with a state-of-the-art 20-inch telescope are also located at Telus.
